Air Venture 2006

Oshkosh - Wisconsin

We finally made it!

It was a long difficult journey and when we finally arrived in Oshkosh we found out the container holding the LoCamp as stuck in New York at Customs. Saturday afternoon, July 26th, Murphy seemed to be working overtime. After many phone calls and heated conversations, the authorities decided our container was not carrying nuclear weapons and let the LoCamp go.Luckily we had two dedicated drivers who drove through the night to reach the gates of the Great Adventure by Sunday early morning, just before the gates slammed shut.

The crowds of enthusiastic flyers swarming our exhibit proved it's popularity. We met many new friends and also chatted with friends we met at Sun&Fun. Everyone wanted to see the aircraft fly. Unfortunately the FAA authorization was out of our reach. We hope to give rides in an American registered aircraft at Sun&Fun 2007.

From the conversations we enjoyed at both shows, we gathered that almost everyone would feel more confident flying on aluminum spars and ribs, so we redesigned the wing structure with this change. The aluminum wing structure will be faster to build and thus cut down the build time. It has been designed to meet the MTOW certification of 1,320 Lbs. (599 Kg) with a load factor of +4/-2 g. The spar will be supplied to the customer completely riveted with solid rivets, while the ribs and leading/trailing edge of the wings will go together using "Matching Hole" technology, where the holes in the sheets meet the holes in the moulded parts without further redrilling.. This step of Quality Control produces an absolutely gorgeous finish and does away with the need for specific gigs. A good straight working table is all that is necessary.

The fuel tank capacity has been increased to a total of 17.5 US gallons each. The tanks can be serviced without disassembling the wing.

The LoCamp received a lot of attention, but it's brothers, especially the BiCamp, were greatly appreciated as well. We hope to show the BiCamp prototype at AirVenture 2007.
